Comic
genius Les Dawson was renowned for
his off key piano playing, dry whit, elastic face,
and love of fine Scotch spirit!
Funny man Les Dawson would have audiences
in stitches with his elastic face, off key piano playing
and jokes about the mother in law. One of stand ups
driest comedians Les Dawson was a firm TV favourite
in the United Kingdom during the seventies and eighties.
Sadly behind the funny face and witty remarks lay
a troubled and tortured soul. Les had deep feelings
of inadequacy and always craved success. He became
a workaholic who neglected his family and relied on
whiskey to drive away the daemons of doubt. He died
at the age of 59 leaving an army of admiring fans
begging for more comedy from a man who became a national
icon.
'Marriage is an institution and that's
where a couple finish up.' Les Dawson
