The annals
of drinking legend are dominated by male heroes. But
alongside Oliver Reed, John Bonham and Hunter S. Thompson
is a woman who took the rock n roll dream to the extreme.
Janis Joplin lived fast and died
young; she sang the blues and indulged in the kind
of debauched behaviour that would put Motley Crue
to shame. Sex, drugs and foul language generated a
reputation that resulted in her being banned from
many concert venues. Heroin addiction plagued her
life and resulted eventually in overdose and premature
death. But there was more to Janis than just booze,
bonking and dope. She was an intellectual woman who
was not afraid to speak her mind. Janis paved the
way for the likes of Courtney Love and stamped the
female mark on a male dominated scene. So raise a
glass to Miss Joplin for she truly was a Top Drunk! |
