Bill
Hicks is regarded as one of the greatest
stand up comedians ever to grace a mic. He was a hell
of a drinker too.
William Melvin Hicks was born on
the 16th December 1961. He died 32 years later of
pancreatic cancer. In the intervening years he produced
some of the most prolific comedy ever to grace the
face of Gods green earth. His scathing, satirical,
attacks on the American government, organised religion,
abortion, politics, war, and many other social issues
earned him an army of loyal fans and the contempt
of conservative Americans. At one gig an angry audience
member was so outraged at Bill’s rant that he
assaulted the comedian breaking his leg.
Bill experimented with drugs as part of a personal
programme to expand his consciousness. He also drank
like a fish, and smoked like a trooper. He gave up
drugs, fags and booze in 1980 but never renounced
them. A true hero of comedy Bill’s legend has
grown since his untimely death. The Cult of the Drunken
Prophet salute you Mr Hicks. You are truly a great
man and a one time great drinker!
