When the Prophet met Jakub Dvorský
Jakub Dvorský is the brains behind Amanita Design and the producer of some of the most exquisite Flash animations and games that the internet has ever seen. I met up with him on a recent trip to Prague. Check out his work at www.jimmy-k.com/amanita
Where do find inspiration for such highly original animations?

it’s a lot of things: dreams, nature, books, films, games, paintings, music, drugs etc.

You have made a flash game for Nike. How did you become involved in that project?

The advertising agency which made promotion for them find me on the web and ask me to create short interactive story about Vince Carter as rocketman.

You work in several different mediums, do you have a favourite?

Definitely Flash. It allows to join together graphics, animations, sounds and interaction.

When growing up what cartoons and animated programmes did you enjoy watching?

Sure. I also enjoyed computer games on my Atari 800XE.

You’re following in a long established Eastern European tradition of alternative animation. How does it feel to be taking the art form into new technologically advanced territories?

The possibility of inteacting and playing with the animations is great and it’s easy to show my work to many people all over the world through the internet.

Your latest animation was for the US pop/rock band The Polyphonic Spree. Did their music directly inspire your work?

Yes partly. I want to create this game suitable for the music, so it’s not so surrealistic or weird as Samorost. But their music isn’t my cup of tea.

Will the little hero from Samorost return in the near future?

I plan it, but I’m not sure if it’ll be in near future.

Which is the best city to go out partying in?

I like Prague and Moravský Krumlov here in Czech Republic, beside that I love Paris, Budapest, St. Peterburg, London and many other smaller places.

What projects are you currently working on?

I just started to make videoclip for danish band Under Byen.

What’s your favourite alcoholic beverage?

Beer, plum brandy, calvados and good red wine.

Do you know any good cocktail recipes that you would like to share with our readers?

Sorry I don’t like cocktails.

Fancy joining the Cult of the Drunken Prophet?

I’m not sure?
